Checkout Policies

Please review these policies before checking out an item from the RSO Print and Resource Center.

How to Pay

Checkout fees (and any additional late/damage/loss fees) are to be paid at the Front Desk of the SAC (third floor of 333 E Campus Mall). For checkout items, fees may be paid by Wiscard or credit/debit card. Checkout fees per item are listed here.

Late and Damage Fees

All checkout items must be returned to the Front Desk by their due date and time. Items must be returned in the same condition (or better) than when checked out. Returning items late and/or damaged will result in additional fees starting at 50% of the item’s purchase price. If an item is not returned or returned in an unusable state, there is an additional fee of 100% of the item’s purchase price. These fees are listed here.

Failing to return an item on time, returning a damaged item, or failing to return an item at all may also result in losing the privilege to check out or reserve items in the future.

Failing to pay any additional fees for late, damaged, or lost items will result in further action including the possible involvement of the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards or UWPD.

Items Leaving the SAC

Only tabling items may leave the SAC when checked out: the 6-foot tables and the bean bags.

Checkout Duration: For these items, you may check them out for one night or two. The listed checkout fees are per-night.

  • If you check out an item for one night, it is due back to the Front Desk by 7PM on the day after you check it out.
  • If you check out an item for two nights, it is due back to the Front Desk by 7PM two days after you check it out.

Items Staying in the SAC

Non-tabling items must remain in the SAC after being checked out. Removing the item from the SAC may result in being banned from checking out or reserving items and/or a referral to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards even if the item is returned on time.

Checkout Duration: For these items, you must return them to the Front Desk by 7PM on the day you check them out. If they are returned after 7PM, they will be considered late, and you may be charged a late fee.

Wii Items

All Wii items (kit, equipment, games) must remain in the SAC and are only compatible with the televisions in rooms 3155 and 4001. You should reserve either room in advance of checking out Wii equipment. If you would like to reserve the Wii for a future event in 3155 or 4001, there is a Wii Kit available for reservation. See the Reservation Resource Menu for more information.

If you have the equipment to use the Wii in your RSO’s office space in the SAC, let the front desk know. The SAC has some adapters available to connect the Wii, but it is your responsibility to confirm that the device will work in a different space before checking it out.

FAQs

This is an accordion element with a series of buttons that open and close related content panels.

Can I return an item early?

Yes. But it will not have an impact on the checkout fee. For example: Let’s say you check out a 6-foot table on a Monday for one night. You could return it to the Front Desk on that Monday before the SAC closes, but the checkout fee will be the same as if you returned it to the Front Desk by 7PM on Tuesday.

What should I do if the SAC is closed when I want to return an item?

You must return all items during the SAC’s open hours:

Sunday – Thursday: 10am-10pm

Friday – Saturday: 10am-8pm

If you leave the items elsewhere inside or outside 333 E Campus Mall, they may be considered lost, and you will be responsible for paying the replacement fee.

Can someone else return an item I checked out?

Yes. Other students can drop off your items. However, if those items and late, damaged, or lost, you will be responsible for paying the additional fees.

What if I don't pay the additional fees for late, damaged, or lost items?

When you check out an item, you are agreeing to pay these fees if you return the item late, damage it, or lose it. If you do not pay the additional fees, SAC staff will submit a report to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards (OSCCS) for further action. OSCCS can sanction you with paying the missing fees on top of any other conduct-related sanctions. Continued failure to pay could result in further disciplinary actions from OSCCS up to and including expulsion.

In some circumstances, SAC staff may also notify UWPD.

Can I place a checkout item on hold?

In some circumstances, Front Desk staff may be able to place a checkout item on hold for the current day only. You can call the Front Desk (608-263-0365) during the SAC’s open hours to request an item be placed on hold. This option is not guaranteed, and your request may be denied.

What if I have more questions?

If you want to learn more about the checkout process, you can call the Front Desk (608-263-0365) or email soli@union.wisc.edu for more information.
